GCB: Will You Be Tuning In?
23 Feb
Good Christian Belles or Good Christian Bitches (whatever you want to call this show, now simply titled as the acronym, GCB) is already causing a stir and is likely to be yet another ABC hit.
From the producer of Sex and the City and the writer of Steel Magnolias, this dramedy, which seems like it could be loaded with satire and camp, (I’m guessing similar to Desperate Housewives!) centers around a group of Christian women who are….well…”mean girls!”
There’s the queen bee archetype, the sexy divorcee, and lots of good ol’ fashioned Texas-sized drama.
ABC found itself dealing with some drama, too, as they came under attack for the original title of the series, “Good Christian Bitches” and lines from the TV promos such as, “Cleavage helps your cross hang straight.” Some Christian organizations believed that the name was demeaning toward Christians and some advocates for women found it too problematic to use the word “bitches” to refer to women. The series was then renamed to “Good Christian Belles” before finally changing the name to the acronymistic “GCB”.
The marketing machine is in full-force for this one, with many promos featuring the cute-as-a-button, super-talented, and always delightful and hilarious Kristin Chenoweth, who stars as Carlene Cockburn – the “queen bee’ of the GCB.
This new television series airs on ABC on Sunday, March 4th, 2012, at 10pm EST. Will you be tuning in?
