Glitzburgh Glam: At-Home Gel Manicures

21 Feb

I was nervous about trying at-home gel manicures. Sure, I think that LED gel and shellac manicures are the best thing since sliced bread — I mean, a mani that lasts for 2 weeks? Count me in!

That being said, I’m not exactly what you’d call a “pro” at doing my own nails. No matter how hard I try, I am not very “neat” when it comes down to painting my nails perfectly.

However, I figured that it was worth a try to attempt the gel manicures in the comfort of my own abode.

I’d heard not-so-great reviews about some of the “drugstore” versions (read: Sally Hansen) but I’d taken notice of more professional offerings at ULTA Beauty and Sally Beauty Supply.

After some research and review-scouring, I decided to try ULTA’s “Red Carpet Manicures.” The portable light was $19.99, the polish colors were $9.99, and the base coat and top coat were $3.99 each. Additional options were a pre-cleanse and a remover.

So far, after 24 hours, the nails are still in great shape. There’s no chipping or peeling, and the color and shine are fantastic. My only issue is that some of the color bleeds into my cuticle … is it a result of poor painting or something else? I don’t know.

I don’t know how satisfied I am, just because I am a train wreck at nail-painting. But, for someone who is more skilled in that area, I’d say that this is definitely a worthwhile purchase! After a couple of applications, it will pay for itself and  you will save money that you would have otherwise spent at the nail salon!
